First Landing State Park Campground has 4 yurts available. They can be reserved between the first Friday in March and the first Sunday in December. Check-in is 4 p.m. and checkout is 10 a.m.
The yurts look like large elevated circular tents or teepees.
Yurts are the only campsites that have an ocean view and sit directly on the dunes along the Bay.
The yurts are furnished, but staying in a yurt is more like camping in a tent than in a cabin. This is because yurts have no heat, no air conditioning, no bathroom, no water, and no electricity. Food must be cooked outside on the pedestal grill or in the fire ring.
Up to 4 guests can stay in a yurt, although it sleeps three. You will need to bring a cot, sleeping bag, or air mattress if you have a fourth guest. You will also need to bring your own linens, sleeping bags, or other items to make you comfortable because the indoor temperatures will be the same as the outdoor temperatures.
Pets are not allowed in the yurts.
You will want to bring all the same supplies, cooking utensils, and gear that you would bring if you were camping in a tent.
Aside from being similar to a furnished, upscale tent, each yurt sits on a large, elevated deck that has four Adirondack chairs. This is a perfect way to enjoy the ocean view, catch some sun, or watch the sun rise or set over the Bay.
There are no bathrooms or running water inside the yurts. Guests can get fresh water and use the bathhouses that are located a short walk away from the yurt.
Underneath the elevated deck is a picnic table, a pedestal grill, a fire ring, and hooks for a hammock. Because the yurts sit elevated on the dunes, they are in direct sunshine. The only shaded area is underneath the deck.
